Mammoth Mountain is part of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and is the highest ski resort in California. Mammoth Mountain is a lava dome complex volcano that lies at the corner of the Long Valley Caldera in Mono County. The volcano is still active with minor eruptions, the largest of which was 700 years ago.
