Hawai`i, the Big Island, is home to five volcanoesMauna Loa, Maunakea, Kohala, Hualali, and Klauea, the youngest of the five. Once considered a satellite of Mauna Loa, scientists have determined that Klauea is a separate volcano with its own magna-producing system. It has the distinction of being the most active volcano in the world. Evidence suggests Klaueabegan its activity from 300,000-600,000 years ago and has remained active to the present, it has been spewing out lava and rising from the sea.
